340M? There's cards with 1GB of superfast videoram now. Quite a trend
especially when considering the wattage required for GPUs that exceed all
but the most modern CPUs in transistor density and number. (Have you
readabout IBM's latest super computer combining CPUs and "cells"
similar to that in Sony's PS3?)

However more in line with help on hardware it may be worthwhile to point
out that there is also a major trend toward quietude. Primarily this has
been achieved by moving to copper or mixed copper and aluminum heatsinks
combined with heat pipes, some even employ phase change materials, and
larger diameter slower turning fans. If you have a loud videocard, I
highly recommend ArcticCooling ( www.arctic-cooling.com ) for aftermarket
hs/fans especially the ones for videocards. Aside from the avalanche of
rave reviews I just bought and installed one for my 7900GT. That specific
model happened to require a minor mod to fit the case but temps dropped 10
C!!! Plus, fan nose dropped from 38db to 24db. For those unfamiliar with
the log nature of db, that's freakin' huge! IIRC 6db is a factor of two,
double up, half down. Even with the mod required for my card & case,
the Silencer 5 rev3 installed in less than 1 hour. I'm happy!
