I think the sequence of search is BAT COM EXE

Yeah... you can add whatever you want to the batch file to "tidy up".
I have been running this way for years.
The only directories in the PATH should be for stuff you want to be able to
call from anywhere. Like small utils in a Batch file need to be in a UTIL
(or some such) directory in your Path.
Any large Bats are best run from a Ramdrive, to get them to fly!
You can also add \.. to your path to force a look into the parent directory of
the one you are operating from.
Other usefuls are
ATTRIB, Resets all attributes on all files
DIR, Shows ALL files (inc system & hidden)
DIR ... Shows Directories but NOT Files
