Let us devoutly hope that your optimism is justified.

As far as LVM is concerned... - there are PC-related changes that I have
accepted reluctantly - the first was moving the function keys from the
left to the top. While I liked them on the left (as they were on the
original PC and XT keyboards) I realized that I would have to adapt to the
top position - I was still at IBM at the time and knew that even if I
managed to hold on to an old keyboard (or a Northgate) I would be using
other peoples keyboards often enough that it was better to switch than
fight. I'd already been through this with F keys - starting out (before
the PC) with the 3270 keyboard, with a 3*4 array of PF keys on the RIGHT
(more or less where the numeric pad is these days) and then various
schemes in use by the 3270 emulators on the old PC keyboard.

LVM was something I had encountered briefly on AIX, but it was in the
context of a Unix file system, where there are no drive letters, and just
*mount points* so that different top level directories actually could be
mounted on different volumes (which might even be on different drives).
No concept of partition IIRC.

When it appeared in eCS 1.0 I gulped, but realized that I could live with
it and the ability to manage drive letter assignments was worth the rest
of the hassle.

All parts should go together without forcing. You must remember that the parts
you are reassembling were disassembled by you. Therefore, if you can't get them
together again, there must be a reason. By all means, do not use a hammer.
