Hello,
-DH>I don't think there is really much in the way of
-DH>"proprietary" features in the Borland
-DH>products, anymore. Sure, there is BIDS and OWL... but you
-DH>get the source for both, and
-DH>they are based on the ASNI draft... Borland's compilers are
-DH>ahead of the rest in supporting
-DH>the ANSI draft... that's why some code written will not
-DH>compile under Watcom of Microsquish,
-DH>yet. I much prefer Borland... but am forced to use Watcom
-DH>right now. Just my $.02.
The way I look at it is this:
I'm basically just trying to find an OS/2 compiler so I can port my
¨door programs to OS/2, as well as possibly do some regular utilities for
OS/2. ¨(Don't tell me anything about porting doors to OS/2, I have an OS/2
door ¨library which is pretty much exactly the same as my DOS door library,
so I ¨don't even need to change function names).
I'm using a Borland DOS product I'm happy with right now... that is
¨one mark towards Borland. Apparently Watcom is hard to port from Borland
¨code, and only comes on CD-ROM (I'm trying to find someone who knows for
sure ¨if BC++/2 is available on disk) which sort of puts marks against it.
CSet++/2 ¨would be do-able, but I only have 8 MB and apparently it is slow
at 8 MB and ¨you cannot even compile C++/OOP code without 16 MB or so.
I don't know of any other products, other than the shareware ones
¨which I do not like to use. If you have any info on other possibilities,
¨please let me know. I'm not looking for a lot of extras like OWL and
such, or ¨even things like Turbo Profiler.
If worse comes to worst, I'll be trying to buy BC++/2 v1.5 at a
very ¨cheap price. Unfortunately, I hear it has some pretty horrible bugs,
so it is ¨low on my list.
Mike
