This is going to be a multipart message, but I wanted to make sure you
have the facts of the matter.

US Scanner News as of around 6 months ago has not paid any of its
contracted writers (me included).

To date, there has been no effort on the part of US Scanner News to
rectify this situation except to obsorb those RCMA Scanner Journal state
members to continue to write as volunteers (e.g., for free!).

In excess of $1,000 is owed to each of the USSN monthly column editors.
Further, they have not paid other members such as those who do the
editing/checking of the articles.

As of the middle of July, all writers for USSN promised to furnish one
last article for the magazine, and if no further efforts were made from
USSN to rectify the salary problem, further articles would no longer be
submitted until full payment was made. At this time, that possibility
seems extremely remote, especially since USSN has now obsorbed RCMA and
their writers. There have been quite a few writers from RCMA that have
refused to write for USSN because of this ongoing dispute about so much
money in arrears for payment. Those of us that write for USSN most
certainly appreciate their support.

But we would also ask those of you who currently purchase the U.S.
Scanner News please not purchase additional copies until this dispute
has been settled one way or the other. USSN located in Portland, OR is
has further taken steps not even to bother to answer their company
phones any longer. I would also request that those of you who have
subscriptions to U.S. Scanner News write to them and cancel your
subscription with a polite letter explaining why you're cancelling it in
that until they pay their writers as THEY contracted to do, you will not
purchase their magazine. The column editors for USSN would certainly
appreciate your support in this matter.

In support of such a request a request to boycott U.S. Scanner News, I
have inclosed the following few messages as an example of those
discussions currently ongoing on Peter Law's internet List Server,
SCAN-L.

Again, readers support in this matter would most certainly be welcome
and appreciated. Please copy/Cross Post a copy of this message in its
entirety to all groups/echos far and wide along the nets and BBSes
including asking for support from your friends.

Priority: High

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I won't go into a long dissertation here, but I would recommend in the
strongest terms that you boycott the US Scanner News magazine out of no
other reason than to show some degree of solidarity with the writers of
U.S. Scanner News who have not been paid - now going on six months for
our hard efforts.

We have been replaced with the volunteer writers of RCMA. I hold no
grievance with the these volunteer writers, but I do believe they should
totally withhold all further submissions until USSN settles up with its
staff writers.

That, in my opinion, is a fair and reasonable request. I personally
would do the same for writer(s) of any other magizine that were being
treated in such a manner.

I would also request that those of you I have addressed in this message
pass this on and give it the absolute widest dissimination to let others
know what is occuring within this field including all readers.

After reading the recent postings from this group which were forwarded
to me, I just had to subscribe and comment on the RCMA/U.S. Scanner News
marriage. How can any RCMA column or associate editor agree to write for
USSN with a clear conscience. Look at the list of people who have not
been paid. Muro, Craven, Quarentiello, just to name a few. Most of them
have at one time or another supported RCMA. Larry Van Horn needs to
aoplogize to no one for his comments. Anyone who agrees to write for
USSN for free while these writers go unpaid will be reduced to scab
status. As a long time RCMA subscriber, I will shred my copy of USSN and
