Well, I finally broke down and did it.  The pain in my legs has been getting
worse and worse over the past few months, to the point that aspirin and other
over-the-counter drugs just aren't helping.  I could handle it until it 
started interfering with my sleep at night, and that broke the camels back.
Yesterday I went for my regular 3 month checkup at the doctor and asked him
for something for the pain.  Man I hate pain medication!  I'm always afraid
of addiction or being rum-dum all the time.  He prescribed NorTabs, which the
pharmacist tells me is a synthetic codeine/morphine type of drug.  He also
advised me to take them for a day or two to see how I react to them before
trying to drive, etc.  Just what I wanted to hear!
Took one at noon yesterday and another at bedtime.  No pain and so far, no
side effects.  The prescription calls for every 4 hours "as needed", so I'm
going to try 3 per day for awhile.  It's nice to be without the pain, but I'm
still leery of the stuff.  Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Anyone have any files concerning PPS and pain?  My doctor knows I have access
to a lot of Post-Polio information and has asked for anything I can get for
him.  Nice to know that he's willing to admit he doesn't know it all.  He
frankly states that Polio was mostly gone by the time he was in medical 
chool
and that they didn't teach much about it.
Man am I glad I have the POST_POLIO echo.  It's super to have somewhere to
vent my frustrations.  Thanks Tom!!
