If the receiver does not sound clean, then what you hear is distortion! If
that JVC is 0.0001% THD I'll eat my shirt. I've had two of their receivers
and you can't believe a word they say when it comes to publishing specs.
They're just cheap amp sections.. all IC's, very few discrete components.
In my manual it says that mine is 100 watts per channel minimum RMS, with
no more than 0.007% THD. Yeah right. What happens to the amp when a peak
comes along and it can't provide the instantaneous power? That's why I
like NAD and the like for amps. They're honest about their power ratings.
Some of them may not put out that much continuous power, but you know that
the dynamic headroom is such that the thing will never clip under normal
conditions. Or Rotel. Not much rated power, but what an amp!
