Hi, I don't have this model of thinkpad but I use the Intel Pro drivers 
on my Thinkpad R31. They're available from the Intel website or the IBm 
driver pak online sites.

As for display brillience, you may find there's a setting in the CMOS to 
define how to save power when on battery. Of course if you make the 
screen brighter, the battery will go flat quicker !
