Hello Hamish,
Thank you for this information, although it didn't help me: the light
is on with or without data cable and the CD would never spin up. I
went as far as door switch and that one is OK.
From my experience, if the drive is connected to power only and the
CD is inserted it should spin up and the 'busy' light should go off
eventually.
I'd better keep this short, it doesn't belong in this echo.
