AFAIK, it's isn't more trouble for him, Pauls just a fascist that wants
people to have minimum online time!  And thats one of the two major
attractions to pointing IMO.  The other one is having your own message
base.  An adjunct to pointing is to instead of reading your mail with a
crappy point mail reading program, run a minimal bbs setup as well, so
as to spit out QWK packets just after the point programs do their stuff,
and so you get the best of both worlds.  More description if you want.
