-> We occasionally handfeed finch chicks here, Jan, but only out of
-> necessity.
-> Although we've raised some as young as day 1 by handfeeding (mostly
-> Cordon Bleus) we typically haven't had to take over until the babies
-> were a bit older and closer to weaning. It isn't as difficult as
-> most people imagine as finches have the same feeding responses as
-> hookbill babies but they are easy to aspirate.
Patty,
Wow! The idea of handfeeding a one-day old finch blows me away. It
must take enormous patience and skill. Did you read Fran's message to
me about a person at a bird club demonstrating handfeeding a baby finch
and aspirating it in front of the group?
Have you kept any of the handfed baby finches? I'm wondering if they
remain tame their whole lives. I had the privilege of having a tame
zebra finch companion until he died at age 14. He was a pesky, but
incredibly loving little guy.
TTYL,
Jan (still missing Beezus)
