Hello Sean,

On Thursday July 23 2020 18:45, you wrote to Martin Foster:

Impossible. CP 437 like all DOS codepages has only room for 128 non ASCII
characters. Those 15 codepages of yours thogether have much more than 128
nonASCII characters. 128 non ASCI characters not being enough for everybody is
the whole reason for having more than one codepage. There is no way that you
can match all the characters from those 15 code pages into the 128 non ASCII
characters of CP437.

For example. There are glyphs for ó (3/4) and ¸ (copyright sign) in CP850 and
CP1252. You can not properly translate that into CP437 because there are no
glyphs for those characters in CP437. You can of course translate them into
"3/4" and "(c)", but that is an approximation. For other, more exotic
characters like ô (Pilcrow sign) this is more difficult. And than I won't even
mention CP866 (Cyrillic) or CP737 (Greek).

SD> So this is much ado about nothing and can be ignored.

For those that live in the CP437 bubble....

Cheers, Michiel
