thanks for the correction, getting old here.

I've got some freeware software that emulates a blue box
with a SoundBlaster card.

I could actually use it to dial the phone with a speaker held close.
Though it worked one day ( only local calls) the next day
it completely failed to operate.
Wonder if the phone company noticed it and altered somethinhg?
