Hello Stephen!
Thus quoth Stephen Lindholm to Peter Fitzsimmons:
PF>> I wanted to learn a little about MMOS2, and as my first
PF>> goal I wanted to write a program that simply reads an audio
PF>> cdrom into my own buffers;if I couldn't figure that out I
PF>> wanted to try to get MMOS2 to write a portion of the audio
PF>> CD into a disk file so I could look at the data later. I
PF>> have got nowhere. If anyone has any ideas....
SL> I believe that this is not possible. My CD-ROM plays redbook through
SL> the drive itself. The rest of my computer doesn't see it unless I
SL> run a phono cable to the soundcard. Note that while some computers have
SL> this cable _inside,_ I know of none that send raw redbook anywhere.
It *is* possible, at least on some CD-ROMs (proven on Toshiba 3401 and
4101), but most CD-ROMs don't support the read-out of audio data. Look into
the options menu of the MMPM/2 CD-ROM player: there is an item called
'digital transfer' which routes the digital audio data from the CD-ROM
through the host computer to the wave audio device. This feature enabled me
to listen to my favourite CDs inserted into my external CD-ROM drive
without any audio connection.
bye, Detlef
