Yes. All the major states have laws against
pyramid schemes, this one is a classic.

It also contravenes the federal Trade Practices Act, primarily because
you didnt make it clear that the person who has that code receives a direct
financial benefit whenever anyone is silly enough to call that number.
You didnt even make it clear that thats an ISD call, and an expensive one.

Sure, the main reason they are illegal is that those who get in early can
indeed make money. The problem is the ones who get in later and get shafted.

You could also decide that this particular one stinks, even if it isnt
illegal. Why should you be encouraging people to call that number, waste
their money on ISD calls to the Seychelles just so your mate gets part of that.

Guess it does beat flogging your body on the street
corners, atleast you are unlikely to catch some disease
calling a phone number, even if it is in the Seychelles |-)
