Hello, Dale!
Although I'm not Patrick, I may be able to help.
DF| Patrick, Hello!
DF| I have an Amiga 3000/060, a pair of 28.8k/33.6k SupraFAXmodems and a
115
DF| multi-port serial card. I'm having a problem (very frustrating) with my
I
DF| I hope this is just a problem with my INIT string, maybe you can tell
e
DF| that's what it sounds like to you...
Usually thats not the case in my experience.
DF| The main problem has been with getting connected and staying
connected..
DF| Half the time I cannot complete the logon process, as my automated
cript
DF| gets me past the name and password stage... Sometimes when I have the
spe
DF| turned on, I can tell by the sound that things are not going as they
shoul
DF| The other half of the time, I get connected just fine, (using the
DF| same automated script), but then get dropped anytime there's a lull in
dat
DF| transfer :( i.e. If I try to configure something while online, try to
use
DF| CUSeeMe, or read online docs, I'll get dropped within just a few
econds,
DF| literally...
Is it possible for you to single-step through the scripted routine to
determine *exactly* where things go wrong? Does your ISP use PAP/CHAP or
some other form of authentication?
DF| If, on the other hand, there are alot of graphics on the screen, or I
am
DF| downloading multiple files, then the chance of a dropped carrier is
lessen
DF| greatly, (though it can still happen). There aren't alot of retrains...
DF| a sudden drop :(
hmmm...
DF| I'm using the INIT string suggested in the TermiteTCP manual:
DF| AT&F2E1V1M1&C1&D2
thats a perfectly good init for proper hardware handshaking to your
serial interface.
DF| Both of my 28.8k SupraFAXmodems (external), are flashed with 1.440-25
an
DF| both use the same init string. I have tried switching ports and thus
have
DF| changed 'both' the phone line 'and' modem, but that didn't solve the
probl
DF| I even tried re-flashing the modems, but that made no diff either :(
I suspect your scripted-logon routine is broken. Is it a canned one
provided by TermiteTCP? If so, your scripting-method may have been
tailored for use with a completely different authentication method.
DF| Unfortunately, my ISP has no concept of what an Amiga
is, and can offer DF| explaination. I have asked what brand modem
their using, but have yet to DF| back from them. I assume they have
28.8k/33.6k USR's.
Sounds like your ISP may need help with customer relations. 8-^)
DF| Can you suggest any changes to my INIT string that might make for a
bett
DF| more reliable connection? Or does this sound like something else might
be
DF| problem?
Your init looks perfectly good. I wouldn't reccommend changing it.
Try fiddling with the scripting routines. Based on what you've said
I suspect it's broken.
Cheers!...Phil
