As soon as they did that, I thought, "What the hell are they doing, rewarding
this guy for potentially costing a team an ALCS?" NBC blew it big time on
this.

I guess a case could be made that he was too young to know any better, but I
still wouldn't say it wasn't his fault.
What bothered me more about Costas was his lack of guts in describing the
play. It was "probably" interfered with, and interference could have
"probably" been
called. Have some balls, Bob, and say it like it is. The umpire blew the
call. It seems the only people not 100% sure about that are you and the
umpire.
Speaking of the umpire, he compounded the error by saying if he would have
saw the replay he would have called it a ground-rule double. What the hell
is that? Tarasco had at least a better than average chance of catching it.
It should have been an out, period.
If these umpires would leave their egos at the door once in awhile and admit
they just blew a call instead of trying to justify it or lessen its impact, I
think people would have a lot more respect for them. He should have just
said, "From my angle it looked like it was out of the park, but after seeing
the replay it appeared that it would have probably been caught and should
have been an out." Fat chance of that happening, though.
