G'day Phil,
PR> The downside of VCRs as audio recorders is they do occasionally give
 PR> you a dropout.
How true, and after about 3 years when recording in SP mode the deck will
refuse to record the hi-fi tracks, but has no trouble in LP mode. I have
this trouble with my deck, a Sharp with the newer Mid-Drive mechanism.
Can anyone suggest if it just needs a good cleaning or if it's something
more serious? (this is also happening on brand new tape, it will record
fine, then not even after the 4th time played back the stereo drops out).
Oh and while I'm here in the echo (yes yes this next bit is on topic )
...have borrowed for a while a Yamaha MT8X multitrack tape deck (cassette
based at 9.5 cm/sec)...the Manuals say to use either TDK-SA or Maxell UDII
only..and here I was ready to put in a nice chunky TDK MA-XG - is it true
Metal tapes can burn the heads?
Thanks :)
Cheers,
Frank
