Allo!
DP> It's all a matter of WHO is doing the assuming, isn't it?
Not really!
DP> I've written a program for genealogy, which assumes

Genealogy it's another story. You already talking about century
when you do geneology, so you already plan for the century into
you data entry.
But when you talk about business application, you talk about
5-10 years past and 5-10 years into the future. Not much more.
So the software package must assume so function about that.
It's reasonnably to figure you talk about 2000 when your computer
date was in 1996 and you type 00. I think, but I look more from
the side of the guy who pay hard earn money to the programmer.
DP> I wish you success with your dates, but feel that your
DP> assumption is a matter of personal taste -- a taste
DP> which most current software disagrees with.
From my point of view, it's hard to have a programmer admit some
fault. It's already someone else fault, never own fault.
Just ad a new function into XBASE package in you will be
helping lot of end user. Just admit it's missing and ask for
it.
