Perhaps, I does cross my mind too. However, there are a few point you
missed. Firstly, the general public is too willing to fool themselves,
accepting government explanation without question....in fact, I remember
reading that the number of letters sent to the average local state politician
on the subject is measured not in thousand but less than a hundred per each
big man. The public deep down does not really give a damn.... The second
point is that a large percentage of these million of sightings are most
likely natural phenomena.....The real reliable witness which include military
personal make up a smaller number of sightings. Thus we would be dealing
with a much small figure of supposed ET crafts. Now I ask you, how often
does a civilian discover pieces of some top secret aircraft, say a F-117?,
not forgeting that these objects would most likely by more reliable.
On the matter of keeping secrets, remembering the general laziness of
the general public to looking in the matter, I do not see it as a major
problem. You must understand, that the military in the past has had (and
naturally has now) classified projects we never knew about, it was ONLY after
THEY evaluated the threat to national security as minimal due to disclosure
of the projects, when the public found out about them. Secret can be kept,
although it would require some co-operation on the other side I'd expect.
This is all very hypothetical as you can tell...
