I have a mechanical problem maybe someone has experienced before or know
about.

I have a Honda CB750 Custom 1980. How do you know if your alternator is
bad. While I am riding, my bike acts like it is out of gas, and slowly
losses power, causing me to pull over. When I try to restart it I can't
because somehow my battery gets totally drained. Could this be a wiring
problem or an alternator problem, or maybe something else? I alway
thought that motorcycles use the battery's power only when first starting
up. Am I wrong? Is there a way to test the alternator?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
