MD> ST> And believe me, Dean Cain would make a MUCH better
MD> ST> choice for Supes in a movie than....NICOLAS CAGE???!!!??
MD>
MD> DB> Never said he wouldn't be. OTOH when Cage was cast he was just
MD> DB> coming off and Oscar win, plus he's been in a couple of rock-em-
MD> DB> sock-em action movies, "Con-Air" and "The Rock", so he's been
MD> DB> in an action hero mode anyway, plus he is really buffed up.
MD> DB> So ignoring the face, which seems to be most people's problem,
MD> DB> he is a good candidate to play a super-hero. It remains to
MD> DB> be seen whether people can get past his face, which isn't
MD> DB> the typicle white, mid-western face people associate with
MD> DB> Superman. I mean Supes is an alien being from another planet
MD> DB> after all, why should he look like a poster for the Aryan
MD> DB> brotherhood?
MD>
MD> ST> No, but it might be nice if he looked SOMETHING like the character
n
MD> ST> the magazine! I mean....Christopher Reeve looked like Giordano's
MD> ST> version, Cain could have been Gil Kane's or Gray Marrow's...whose is
MD> ST> Cage going to be...Jack Kirby's???? (g)
MD>
MD> Okay, so Nicholas Cage might NOT be the best choice for Superman, but
MD> how would have predicted Cage's (and Travolta's, for that matter) sudden
MD> popularity in the movie theatres? He might be able to pull it off,
MD> simply due to his acting ability (and his recent experience in action
MD> movies). No one expected Michael Keaton for BatMan, and he did a very
MD> good job (as far as I'm concerned).
Yes, Keaton was a good BATMAN, but he was unbelievable as Bruce Wayne,
looking more like his head waiter or busboy. For some reason, they have
NEVER gotten Alfred right! He should be played by a David Niven type,
instead, he's almost always played by a bespectacled stringbean with white
hair!
I have to hand it to them over Robin/Grayson, though....Chris O'Donnell was
pretty sharp as the Boy Wonder in "Batman Forever", being the best thing
about the movie outside of those incredible sets and dolly shots!
MD> ST> No...Burton really should learn to match up the actor to the
character
MD> ST> a little more closely! Keaton and Nicholson were NOT Batman and The
MD> ST> Joker, but the former would have been GREAT as the Riddler, and the
MD> ST> latter perhaps as Commissioner Gordon or Bullock, (if he hadn't been
MD> ST> transmorgrified into Urqhart!) Who the hell's going to play
MD> ST> Luthor....Jon Bon Jovi???
MD>
MD> {chokes}
MD> Now that is just an evil thing to say...
MD> {laughs}
MD> Perhaps they should call back either John Shea (the Luthor from L&C)
MD> or Gene Hackman (the 80s Luthor). However, I get the strangest
MD> feeling that they'll call in Hulk Hogan from wrestling or some
MD> other sports figure...
MD> {shudder}
Hmmm....How about Wallace Shawn? Or Jeffry Jones? Keith Carradine?? RUTGER
HAUER!!?
Now THERE'S a villain's villain!! Or worse yet....RICHARD LYNCH!!!
(Hulk Hogan???)
I think they even HAVE a character with a name similar to Lex Luthor's in the
WWF
