Its terribly easy to do that. Fortunately I don't smoke or drink
at all so those aren't a problem. I have to discipline myself to not
overeat and especially to not eat the wrong things. Stress is my
biggest enemy.
Mine, also a quad, six months after the balloon and "rotor rooter"
procedures, was in June of this year. I've already found myself coming
up with reasons to not exercise. So far I've been able to continue and
progress with it. I started at the cardiac rehab unit of the hospital
where I had the surgery. After six weeks of VERY structured exercise, I
went on my own. With the regimentation they taught me, it has been
pretty easy to continue. All I have to do is remind myself of those
first two or three weeks after the surgery and I have no problem
exercising :).
Actually, I'm in the best physical condition now that I've been in
thirty years. Every where I go, people tell me how good I look. They
usually guess my age ten years younger than I really am. I never tire of
it :)
As well as the programmed exercise, I do things like splitting firewood,
riding my motorcycle every day, coaching and umpiring baseball,
softball, and soccer, landscaping my yard, water skiing, and flying my
airplane. There IS life after heart disease and it can be fantastic even
when you are on the downhill side of a century.
