04-27-05 12:17, Roy J. Tellason told Jim Holsonback about Thomas the Tank Engine RJT> JIM HOLSONBACK wrote in a message to ALL: JH> Now, our grandkids have an interest in trains, esp the 2 yr old JH> grandson. (Our SIL, who I suspect was the original officianado, now JH> as an HO gage train running around the wall of his bedroom, up near JH> the ceiling) . Both grandkids like the series about "Thomas the JH> Tank Engine", which plays here on Sunday AM's on pbs channel. The JH> kids tape it for them when they go to church, and the grandkids JH> watch it regularly. JH> Anyway, they have this "replica" of Thomas making a tour now, and JH> it was at a little Railroad museum about 20 miles south of here JH> over the weekend, and they were selling rides. All of us had a fun JH> afternoon, and after the Thomas ride, the little ones got to climb JH> up on the old caboose, steam engines and etc. in the "yard", pull JH> the rope and ring the bell, and etc. (I think the loco there was JH> an old 4-8-0 from 1920's). RJT> There's some fair amount of touristy stuff in Lancaster RJT> County, PA, which is not at all far from here, and that RJT> particular loco (or maybe another one just like it?) is RJT> featured on one of their brochures, for the "Strasburg RJT> Railway". Got several grandkids that would get a big kick RJT> out of making the trip down there, which we probably RJT> oughta do one of these days, funding permitting... We've a working steam engine in a historical park here. (Don't recall the truck configuration on it, but something tells me it was the same numbering as a Hudson.) The same historical park reportedly trollies visitors to and from the parking lot and the front gates, but on my last visit, they had just secured the the track, and were working on the electric car-engines. I know of three static displays of steam engines in town. One *right* downtown. Would have been interesting watching them crane it into place! ...
