WI>will only improve clay soil! (...could it *get* any worse? :)
Good logical argument for adding almost anything to clay soil.
Ahredded (two-inch square) chunks of cardboard carton should
qualify as additives. I suspect that paper wouldn't help, but
that thickish cardboard would take long enough to break down that
it would assimilate the clay particles.
I now have six compost pails going in rotation and It is
interesting to observe the delays in breakdowns. When I sive-out
a bin, the unbroken material goes straight into the bottom of the
empty pail so that the worms get another long stab at devouring
the stuff. I suspect that come summer I'm going to actually turf
out the remaining stone-fruit pits and bones and end up with one
shopping-bag of debris from seven or eight-months kitchen and
office garbage.
All the scrunched-up 8.5x11 inch paper is disappearing fast!
WI>the weather. Freezing is one of the *best* of tools for this! (And, it's
WI>*free*, for many of us! :)
I am resisting the urge to ask for the derivative of the word
"freezing" here (g!)
