If it's a government agency generating the information then it should be
available to the public for free. Take tax details for example. If I worked
for the IRS I could find out what any one of the americans here makes and
pays in taxes, why should they not be allowed the same access? I think it
would be great if everyone in a company could find out how much everyone
else in that company makes, it would end the screwing some people get from
their employers.
Pretty much everyone can find out how much anyone else's house is worth,
nobody seems to have a problem with www.zillow.com so what's the big deal
with tax returns?
Criminal details, again if I were a cop I could check you out so why not
even the score, take the power away from the elite who have access and give
access to everyone.
Health details? Health records are not generated by a government agency,
each person pays their doctor so it's not general tax money generating the
information so the public doesn't have a right to it. Change that so health
insurance is supplied by the government and yeah sure it's our information
we should have access to it.
Besides, if we passed a law that any db where the information is collected
using our tax dollars had to be available online to the public, it might
make the government a bit more sensitive about collecting information on us
since we would now be able to see the same information on the people doing
the collecting.
