If I recall, and I don't really think about it all that much, there was
some comments that it was a religious holiday (Jewish??), and that the
number of people was actually down for that day, because of the holiday,
and people later to work because of that.
The week after Labor Day, should not really be light, because in NY area,
schools just started back in session (day after labor day typically), so
most family vacations are over, so last minute trips are finished.
