I used to manage a Mexican tech who'd done the pilgrimage on his knees to San
?something de Campostela in the D.F.  He said he cheated - started just
halfway up the steps; no trek into town on the stone-filled dirt roads
("like the grandmas").  When he wore shorts, I had to turn away. 
When he squatted, he grunted.  I was impressed (with the devotion).
