Sorry to hear about your bad luck with fluval. I recently upgraded to a
304 from my older 303, which finally died.
I love the 304 and have had no problems with it at all. I do agree with 
your comment about the apparent inability to clean the hoses properly, 
though I haven't tried yet.  I'm still not sure if I prefer the Fluval's 
new method of returning the water to the tank or the old way. The fish 
don't seem to mind either way.
