We frequently make our Hoppin John soup for New Year's Day. It contains
black eyed peas, ham, and collard greens along with other stuff. Black
eyed peas seem to be a New Year's tradition for a number of people. One
year I went to the grocery to get a bag of dried black eyed peas, but
they were sold out. The did have bags of fresh black eyed peas -- so I
got them. BIG mistake. The soup was no where near as good.
