 Can't you get anything right ? :-) I still have Windows on the 
 PC at home, and I use Telemate, at 9600 though, without any 
 errors. This is on a 386SX-20, and Telemate runs fine in the 
 background whilst reading mail etc.
 
 You must have one of those systems that isn't responsive to 
 anything but a DOS command line. After all, your M/B must be 
 ancient if only accepts DIP RAMS. They went out with the Ark, 
 together with your rudder card, and I'd hazard a guess that 
 perhaps the chipsets etc are not up to the task of modern day 
 software. Has been known to happen esp with the older BIOS's - 
 as you have discovered.
