-> Hi James, -> You wrote to Tom Walker on 06.05.05 about "Sterling Dif.Compression": -> [hack to here] -> TW>> Teh British experiements with the "Self Contained" Internal -> TW>> combustion engines using Hydrogen Peroxide for fuel, As the name -> TW>> implies Fuel and Oxidizer in one package, also to enhance -> TW>> submerged endurance. -> JB> Until just now, I never realized Hydrogen Peroxide would be -> JB> combustable. (Shows how far my chemistry took me. ;-) I suspect -> JB> the 3% stuff we find on the shelves wouldn't be? -> Tom's a bit adrift on this item. Hydrogen Peroxide isn't a fuel, -> it's an Oxidant. So, by itself H2O2 isn't combustible on its own -> - it requires a fuel. -> Do a small amount of research on Missile Engines (Rocket -> Engines). It ATE a number of German test pilots who were testing rocket powered jets at the end of the war. It's also the suspected reason the Russians lost the Kursk submarine. Torpedo dropped during loading suspected fuel oxidizer mix, BOOM. -> It's a bit of a complicated item to explain in total. But that -> "3% Hydrogen Peroxide" is quite a good demonstration. The reason Yeah, toss a charcoal briquette into some 90 percent H2O2, from far, far away. -> that stuff is frequently used by folks to bleach their hair - -> it's because that 3% H2O2 releases sufficient Oxygen to cause the -> hair to act as the fuel and start the burning process. -> Clear as mud ?? -> (I used to work with Stentor engined items and other bits for a -> number of years .....)
