BL> Gee, thanks, Paul. That's a great help! Sorry. It won't happen again :-) PM>> Ah! therein lies the story! You see, some people have what PM>> could be termed serial brains. That is they can only think of PM>> one thing at once. So, for instance, they can't read a message PM>> and actually understand what it's about. BL> That's why they like OS/2. They think it'll do multitasking. I thought it was the people who bought the Microsoft marketing hype that thought they were getting multitasking. The OS/2 users *know* they are getting it (assuming they can install the thing in the first place :-)) PM>> THe parallel brains don't have this limitation and can, say, PM>> chew on a piece of toast and read the paper at the same time. BL> I've actually seem people fall down stairs and scream at the same BL> time. Amazing! Wow! BL> Preemptive multitasking is the way to go. Cooperative BL> MT requires too much intelligence. There is always the risk of eating BL> the paper and reading the toast. Eating the paper is probably healthier. Reading the toast probably makes more sense. Personally, at work I'm interrupt driven. Some body rings me with a problem and I put aside what I'm doing to look at their problem. The next person rings and I start looking at that. So by the end of the day I've started a dozen tasks and haven't finished any!
