Hi Doug,

You were correct!  I added the quotes and the detach statement worked fine.
However, there was a new problem.  VMODEM requires a "VGA or
better" video Ťadaptor.  Do you know of any way to tell a detached
process that it's driving Ťa VGA card?

For the time being, I tried START "c:\sio\vmodem.exe".  That works ok..
