DM> In that case, what files would I need to keep to retain things DM> like video and sound card drivers and settings - win.ini ? DM> system.ini ? It's a PITA restoring all those sound card and DM> other settings and drivers - a pain that I wish to avoid, if DM> possible. Jeez! Don't do that! At the very least, save *all* the ini files, and the pif files, and all the dll files in c:\windows and c:\windows\system both ... or you'll have to restore the whole bloody thing. DM> When I boot WfWG, the program manager starts, but there are no DM> program groups, and there is an error, "Progman - An error has DM> occurred" If I select close at that point, I get "Application DM> Error - Progman caused GPF at loc ....." Either progman.exe is corrupt, or win.ini or system.ini is stuffed. If you reinstall wfwg, it'll leave them untouched. You'll have to delete progman.exe and unpack the original from the floppies using expand.exe. If this doesn't work, Windows should have saved an old version of win.ini and system.ini as win.bak and system.old. If they're not too old, you can swap them and see what happens. DM> If I choose Ignore, I get "Cannot open group file '%s'. Do you DM> want Program Manager to try an load this in future? ". This DM> occurs ad nauseam. This is what progman.ini looks like, in case that's corrupt too. Window=32 48 608 384 1 display.drv=wgadgx8.drv Order=4 3 9 7 11 10 12 5 8 6 2 1 13 AutoArrange=1 SaveSettings=0 [Groups] Group1=C:\WINDOWS\MAIN.GRP Group2=C:\WINDOWS\ACCESSOR.GRP Group3=C:\WINDOWS\STARTUP.GRP Group4=C:\WINDOWS\APPLICAT.GRP Group5=C:\WINDOWS\NETWORK.GRP Group6=C:\WINDOWS\SETUP.GRP Group7=C:\WINDOWS\PDQCM201.GRP Group8=C:\WINDOWS\BCW402.GRP Group9=C:\WINDOWS\ACADLT.GRP Group10=C:\WINDOWS\DELPHI.GRP Group11=C:\WINDOWS\BP7.GRP Group12=C:\WINDOWS\ADOBEACR.GRP Those grp files should be in the directory. My guess is that progman.exe is corrupt. Replace it. Regards, Bob ___ Blue Wave/QWK v2.12 @EOT: ---* Origin: Precision Nonsense, Sydney (3:711/934.12) SEEN-BY: 711/934 712/610 @PATH: 711/934 |
