subject: spit in eye?

Did some Yankee fan spit in Rich Garcia's eye, or hit him in the head with
something? Only a blinded man could have missed the fan interference on
Derek Jeter's eighth inning flyout, which Garcia ruled a home run that tied
the game at 4-4. Why pay six umpires, if they don't do their job any better
than the usual four? The first base ump could have blown this call all by
himself! If the kid had leaned any further over the field, he'd have landed
on Tarasco's head! Garcia missed a similar call on a foul ball in the ninth,
but that one didn't lead to any runs.
I know, I know - the Orioles also beat themselves with sloppy defense, and a
total lack of clutch hitting, but at least they did that to themselves. It's
one thing for a fielder to turn a flyout into a hit (see Surhoff and Bonilla)
- it's quite another for a fan and an umpire to turn an out into a home run,
especially in a league championship series. *adh*
