subject: REXX starting a DOS program

SB> I need to run a DOS program from within the REXX
 SB> program to write a message into a message area on my
 SB> bbs. What I do is create a command string, which
 SB> includes the fully qualified program name, and all it's
 SB> parameters... If I try to execute that command string
 SB> within REXX, I get a SYS1059 error:

REXX has no problems starting DOS programs on my system and either of the
following work for me...

"d:\qpro\q.exe"

or

cmdstr = "d:\qpro\q.exe"
cmdstr

 SB> Does REXX just not like executing DOS programs or is
 SB> there some sort of limitation to the way REXX can invoke them?

If you don't get the answer from someone else, please post an example of
the code that doesn't work so we can reproduce the problem. All I can say
at this point is that it works fine here.

Bill
