subject: Handfeeding finches

Fran,
-> You might take some tape and put an X on the window so the birds
-> don't crash into it. Surprised that the Mockingbird didn't break its
-> neck. But I'll be he had a headache.
That was one determined bird. He wanted IN, and he wasn't crashing into
the window with his head. He hit the window with his feet every time.
Yesterday there was a hawk sitting in our tall tree by the lake. He
wasn't there 5 minutes before a mockingbird started dive bombing him.
They are brave AND determined birds.
-> Several years ago I was at a bird club meeting when one of the
-> members was giving a demonstration on handfeeding a baby Strawberry
-> finch. She asperated the little finch in fron of the whole bird club.
-> HF finches is a touchy job.
Oh NO, Fran. That would be enough to keep me away from bird club
meetings forever. After our experience with Beezus, I'm not sure that
handfeeding is necessary for taming zebra finches. They are incredibly
social creatures. I think you only need to get them young and give them
time out of the cage with you. Of course, they have to be alone so they
will be desperate for companionship. Having a finch flying free is not
for everyone, though. You have to constantly clean those tiny poops off
of everything in your house. I'm STILL finding Beezie poops here and
there; of course now they just make me miss him terribly.
-> Did you see my message about no I-mail.
Yep, of course by now you and Claire have found a way. What geniuses
you two are!
