RS> There is such a great demand for Nostalgia items that you can now
RS> go into a store and buy a brand new Scwinn Bicycle. It is a modern
RS> production of the old Bike but I do not think that the Quality
RS> is there. A rear coaster Brake and only one speed. It has the
RS> old Metal Tank between the two upper Bars. These used to hold a
RS> Battery Pack and a Horn back in the good ol' days. They used to
RS> also have a small Battery Headlight on the Handle Bars (It was a very
RS> poor light at best) and a Bell or Rubber bulb Horn. Full
RS> Fenders, a Luggage Rack over the rear wheel and a Kick stand.
RS> A small tool kit was attached to the rear seat. It contained a
RS> Tire Patching Kit and a wrench and Screwdriver. It used what were
RS> called Baloon Tires, big and fat and used 30 pounds of Air Pressure.
I had one of those when I was in Junior High, back in the dark ages. Sure
wish I had it now . . . it would be very valuable. Of course I apparently
understood something about performance cycling even back then because, after
the newness wore off, I stripped most of that stuff off the bike.
Incidently, those Schwinn's of circa 1950 had coaster brakes and one speed.
This is "authentic" and not some "cutting corners" on quality by the end of
the century replicas.
They also had 50 pound kick stands. 8^)
And a bike playing card fixed to the fork so as to roar against the spokes
was also required along with the air-speed spedometer.
