| subject: | looking for routine to generate completely unique filenames |
Hello Erik! Replying to a message of Erik Huelsmann to all: EH> Hello All! EH> Is there anyone out there who has a routine to generate completely EH> unique filenames?? EH> I had an idea to do so, but it doesn't fit into the 8.3 naming EH> convention! EH> EH> EH> EH> these three make a total of 6 bytes. which is 12 digits coded in hex, EH> which is again one digit too much for 8.3 . The one hex-digit is EH> solveable, but I wanted to put in an extra code/number for the case But why stop with F when you have 26 chars and 10 numbers so you can use base 36 to name your file. In base 36 you only need 10 digits. In base 36 and with 11 digits you can represent 56 bits (7 bytes). --- FleetStreet 0.98wb* Origin: Home_point (ken{at}algonet.se) (2:201/220.5) SEEN-BY: 12/2442 620/243 624/50 632/348 640/820 690/660 711/409 410 413 430 SEEN-BY: 711/807 808 809 934 942 949 955 712/515 713/888 800/1 7877/2809 @PATH: 201/220 201 2104 109/347 2 7 3615/50 229/2 12/2442 711/409 808 809 934 |
