Most bloom is day-length, temp., or a combination of these (and other
factors) induced. They (Schlumbergia) are listed as being day-length induced
bloom... however, when I was in the business of "forcing" them into bloom
(for market) in the greenhouse, we gave them several days of 50-55'F nights,
without adding anything else (like shortened days, as this is a pain in the
neck). This breaks their day-length requirement, and they will go ahead and
set bud. (This is also true for the Thanksgiving, but the Easter requires
40-45'F temp.)
cheers,
WL Sakowski
