Hi Terry,
I sure can't tell you if the antenna on your scanner is enough to pull
in Mir comms.  I'd try seeing if you can hear the Ham comms from Mir
initially.  I think the downlink frequency has been posted in a previous
message.  I keep all the non-ham freqs in my scanner and scan them all
the time.  That might be your best bet to hear something.
I'm not quite as far north as you.  Here, the US-Canadien border runs
along the 45th parallell, I think.  I believe I'm about 44.25N
