-> You may not like the idea of chuckie running for governor, but think

Maybe. But politics is rarely pure and NEVER simple. Chuckie won't run
unless he really thinks he can win. He may be a slimy bastard, but he's
a fairly astute politician. His backstage maneuvering to save his
safe seat during the last redistricting in 1990 was politically
brilliant. His current Chief of Staff is the former CofS to the former
State Assembly Speaker, with all kinds of good connections to upstate
Democrats.
He might win. It's entirely possible our current Governor will screw
the pooch big time in the next campaign.
If he DOES win, he's liable to use the Governorship to make a run at the
Presidency in 2004 or 2008. Something I doubt he could do from
Congress.
Even if he losses, I doubt if we'll be rid of him. Most likely he'll go
to work as a lobbyist for HCI and continue to make our lives miserable.
I'm gonna spend the next couple of years trying to organize NY's gun
owners to put enough pressure on the various Democratic County Chairs
and Committees that they will deny him the nomination. That would be
GREAT payback!

John
