Hello Peter, along with Mike, JdeBP, and David.
I thank all four of you for your helpful responses to my earlier
query:
ML> Calling DosQueryPathInfo for level 2 information,
ML> buffer_name.cbList always displays a value for EA bytes associated
ML> with the file (or directory) that is exactly twice what "dir /n" (in
ML> a FAT partition) shows for that same file.
In essence, you tell me that .cbList _usually_ returns a value
_twice_ the actual EA length as returned by "dir /n." However, I have
discovered that I did not frame my query quite accurately. A little
more experimentation with DosQueryPathInfo showed that .cbList returns
"4" for files that "dir /n" shows an EA length of zero.
(I guess that
it takes 4 bytes for the underlying structure to show there aren't any
EAs to display.) My next question is: What is the minimum length for a
valid Extended Attribute set? In other words, where do I "tweak"
.cbList to show an EA length of zero, rather than using .cbList/2? Am I
safe in using .cbList/2 for all returned values over 4?
Any further comments will be appreciated.
