In a message dated 02-0995, David Hooker said to Jonathan De Boyne Pollar: Jd> Borland lost out heavily to the Jd> C++Views and Zinc A/Fs of this world, and (more significantly) to the Jd> ICLUIs and ObjectPMs. DH|Do you / have you used ObjectPM?? I use it now, and in many ways I feel |that it is vastly inferrior to OWL / BIDS. I'm not that familiar with OWL/2 ... but I *am* very familiar with ObjectPM. I'm interested (honestly) as to why think this, and where you find it "inferrior". Having experience with other C++ and/or GUI frameworks, I find it a productive environment. Again, I don't know much about OWL, but I've been told it's a "very thin" wrapper over API calls. And then it doesn't support CUA'91 controls, nor threads, nor any other OS/2-specific feature, as it's a based on the lower "Windows denominator". I *have* done Windows coding using C++/Views and found it to be pretty "weak". What's BIDS? Nick .. It's OS/2, Jim, but not OS/2 as we know it. -- MR/2 2.19a #0 --- InterPCB 1.50* Origin: Nerd's Nook (216)-356-1431 - Hayes V.VFC (1:157/2) SEEN-BY: 12/2442 620/243 624/50 632/348 640/820 690/660 711/409 410 413 430 SEEN-BY: 711/807 808 809 934 942 949 955 712/515 713/888 800/1 7877/2809 @PATH: 157/2 200 3615/50 229/2 12/2442 711/409 808 809 934 |
