subject: Windows pain

On the 14/05/97 16:06, John ranted to Dieter...

 Hello John,

DM> During my brief absence, a gremlin has snuck into my PC, rendering
DM> my WfWG install useless. Not that it was that great to start
DM> with, but it worked. Most of the time. Until now, that is.
...
DM> In that case, what files would I need to keep to retain things
DM> like video and sound card drivers and settings - win.ini ?
DM> system.ini ? It's a PITA restoring all those sound card and other
DM> settings and drivers - a pain that I wish to avoid, if possible.

JT> You've screwed up one or more or your INI files. If you get lucky,
 JT> you may
JT> be able to find an old INI, do a dir system.* win.* etc...

 Hmm, doubt it.

JT> A windows reload only copies over the code part, it leaves the ini's
 JT> intact.
JT> This is a problem when the ini files are the ones causing the problem.

Bummer, I was hoping that it was an exe or dll that got screwed
so a simple overwrite would have done the trick. Not so it
 seems.

Probably the best way would be to copy over all the ini files,
delete the existing ones, reinstall WfWg, and then copy back the
ini files and see which it crashes in.

 Thanks for the pointers anyway.

 Dieter
