Hi,
I recently changed ISP's from one which used a Linux Shell Account to
one running an NT Server. Is there any problems to watch out for from
ISP's running NT Servers?
I'm running Warp4 FP4, Netscape Navigator/2 (November release), and Java
1.1.4, and I'm experiencing some difficulties.
1. I cannot telnet out with ZOC (3.051). I get a connection failure
error after the modems have done some talking together. This worked
fine on the old Linux ISP.
I then tried to telnet using Warp's Telnet Client, and it worked
fine. However, I need to use zmodem to d/l some mail packets/files
from the bbs's I'm telnetting into.
Any suggestions?
2. I seem to be getting a lot of spurious proxy server errors even
though I apparently have the correct http proxy server defined.
The kind of problems encountered are:-
a) not connecting me with the site and giving me a fairly
generic multiple response error message (#87 if I recall).
In most cases (not all) If I keep selecting the same url
then it might work after the 6th or 7th attempt.
b) Similar to a) I get the proxy server error but the site then
continues to load properly.
c) Some pages don't appear to be cached since I can't seem to
go back to them in the browser (fairly common occurrence).
d) The site fails to load informing me I need browser supporting
frames, which I obviously have and works most of the time.
e) I get up to 3 characters on the top-leftmost corner of the
screen when the html page is loading. Sometimes the page
hangs at that point and sometimes the page loads but usually
those 3 characters remain.
f) Related to e) (i think) when this happens mostly the buttons
are not displayed properly, and the box with the turned-up
bottom-right corner appears instead.
g) Sometimes the Java error box appears but I forget the error
closing the box and continuing usually works.
These are all common problems which never occured with my previous
Linux ISP and kinda spoils the browsing experience :( Does anyone
recognise the problems and have the solution to resolve them? I'd
suspect there is 1 cause rather than individual unrelated problems.
Thanks in advance,
Rgds,
Stewart
