 Just FYI, MRI's magnets are always energized.
It costs us between $10K and $15K to restart a
magnet.

 I don't know specifically what causes the MRI
noises; but, they ARE very noisey when capturing
images. We give the patients headphones with a
choice of music to help relax and help mask the
noises.
