I am also impressed that this

Trendy methods cited in college books doesn't necessarily impress me
either. As Charles Beams has related the story of the "new math" movement
of the 60's...it was quite the rage at that time. I believe that all
new math teachers in training at the Universities were converted to
believe soundly in that presenation of math. But that died, too. I would
think you would remember this type of instruction...from what you've
written I thought you were the same age as I. I learned about sets and
membership, subsets, unions, etc.. in elementary school. I learned base 5
and base 8, etc..., function notation in fifth grade. One-to-one
correspondence. They don't teach this stuff in the elementary classrooms
any more.
DT> Sorry this is so long..
Ditto on the reply.
