that is not a good idea... unless the MSGID is changed it would generally be
seen as a duplicate and thrown away... one could make a second copy of the
message which should get its own MSGID and then they could edit that one... it
really depends on the software... some might keep the MSGID the same if the
message has not been sent yet... if it has been sent, it could make a second
copy with a new MSGID and you could edit that... there might even be a notice
box popped up about the copy being made since the message was already sent...

that's a bit different as the PKT was set aside so the MSGIDs would not have
been processed... in this case, one would generally unset the "sent" bit of the
message(s) and trigger a new outbound mail scan which would pack the messages
into a new PKT and send them off again... hopefully this time, the problem with
the PKT has been fixed so the messages would be properly processed and passed
on...
